With my interior design degree in hand, it was time for the next step. I was ready to realize my dream of opening up my own boutique in my adopted home city of Tampa. I’d have my own place where I’d be able to share the designs for décor that I loved. Though this choice was a big leap of faith, Jim, all to his credit, didn’t hesitate in offering his support of this new endeavor. If I had to start such a new and unknowable journey, I was glad to have such a supporting partner by my side.

Isabella's Beginning: The Foundations of an Artist - Part 1

Part One

You know, looking back on everything the direction my life has taken still amazes me. From a young age, I knew that I wanted to do something artistic, the universe tended to have other plans for me. A life is not a straight line, there all kinds of detours and roadblocks. The important thing is to keep going and to follow your own path.  

I remember one of the earliest roadblocks to my artistic calling in the person of an unpleasant high school teacher. I was making a poster for a school fundraiser and Mrs. Duwell, who had quickly established herself as an avid critic of mine, examined the poster like it was infested with a contagious disease. She made her usual disdainful face, which I can still picture to this day.   

“You have no artistic ability, Ms. Adams. Honestly, I don’t know why you try.” she drolly sneered...
